Killed Mum and Son Admits Slaughtering
Anthony Russell, 39, had previously denied killing Julie Williams, 58, her son David Williams, 32, and Nicole McGregor, 31, in October 2020.
Mrs. Williams and her son were found dead in separate apartments in Coventry, just hours apart on October 25 and 26 respectively.
Mrs. McGregor, 31, was found dead in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on October 29 of that year.
David Williams was last seen on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, and was reported missing to police on Saturday, October 24.
His mother, Julie Williams, was found dead in her apartment just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, after concerns were raised for the 58-year-old’s well-being.
And then, around 24 hours later, police revealed that 32-year-old David’s body had been found on a different floor in the same square at around 11:30 p.m. m. on Monday, October 26.
Then the body of a woman was discovered in Leamington Spa around noon on Thursday 29th October.
She was later named Nicole McGregor, while Russell was arrested by police the following day in Rolleston-on-Dove in Staffordshire, near the Derbyshire border.
The defendant was arrested on October 30 after a major search effort by the police.
Russell, with no fixed address, had previously admitted to the manslaughter of all three victims.
He was due to stand trial at Warwick Crown Court today [14 February] charged with three counts of murder before his guilty plea was changed.
Russell will still stand trial today after pleading not guilty to a rape charge.
In the wake of Julie and David’s deaths, relative Jae Williams launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs.
It read: “Hello everyone. Following our recent and most devastating news regarding the murders of our family members, Julie and her son David, our family would like to kindly ask for any donations possible to help fund their funerals.
“Thank you very much in advance, we will be very grateful for any amount raised x.”
The page raised £2,000 to help with costs.
Tributes
In tribute to Nicole, her family previously said, “We want to thank people for their good wishes, Nicole will be greatly missed. We request that you leave us alone to grieve at this difficult time.”
Nicole had previously been on the run from police after failing to appear in court for possession of a knife.
She was once wanted by British Transport Police after being charged with possession of an offensive weapon and fare evasion in July 2019.
In a lengthy post on her Facebook page in August, she wrote about trying to get her life back on track.
She said: “A fresh start for me is definitely a need to put myself first and focus on fixing my life once and for all.
“I hope we cross our fingers that we have something else to live for. I need to leave the old, negative things behind and start putting the positive things first.
“I just want to say that I have a lot of support around me and good friends behind me. I hate everything fake to face nonsense. Peace. Hahaha. Love all my children. I miss you all very much. Always in my heart. My thoughts they never forget.”
