“Get in there!” Trujillo cruelly yells as he hits the trunk, shows the clip, enraging a woman who saw her and took a video of her on her cell phone. “Dude, you can’t put that kid in the damn trunk!” the woman says to Trujillo. “You can’t have that damn kid in the damn trunk! Get the damn kid out of the damn trunk! ”
Trujillo, who seems confused by the witness’s response, says she planned to take him out later before opening the trunk and freeing her son, as the eagle-eyed onlooker demanded. The child then stands barefoot nearby and continues to cry, shows the recording. Trujillo proceeds to angrily confront the female witness, who threatens to “bother” her unless she backs down. “Okay, listen … you don’t know my son,” Trujillo tells the woman, who doesn’t accept her explanation. “You’re not putting a damn kid in a damn trunk,” the indignant woman says as another man approaches the scene, the clip shows.
Charged & Arrested
Chelsea Trujillo, 33, was arrested Thursday by police in Pueblo after footage showed her “forcibly placing” her young son in the trunk of her car Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded to a report of possible child abuse Wednesday and tried to locate Trujillo in his blue Chevy Malibu without license plates. Police said Thursday they found her and the child, who is now in the custody of child welfare officials, KOAA reported.
“Obviously, I think anyone watching that video would be concerned for the well-being of that child,” said Pueblo Police Sgt. Franklyn Ortega told the station. “We saw what you saw on the video, but we have to see everything, so the detectives are involved.”
Trujillo faces charges of child abuse and violation of a restraining order. The Pueblo Police Department arrested a woman who reportedly forced her 5-year-old son into the trunk of a vehicle after a bystander captured the alleged incident on camera.
Trujillo faces charges of child abuse and violation of a restraining order in the incident, police said. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
