Labeled An Ableist By The Internet

On Saturday, February 27, Hanna replied to a tweet that read, “How you’ll feel about tone indicators?” to which she replied saying, “I think you all are doing way too f****n much.” Tone indicators are acronyms that indicate a tweet or a message. These messages can be perceived differently by different people, most of them being neurodivergent.

In a long explanatory post, one Internet user posted Hanna’s comments and screenshots in a thread saying: “Since Gabbie Hanna wants to be a f*****g ableist, let’s talk about her shitty choices over the years – – A Thread /srs,” and “1. For someone with a big platform, spreading this behavior is disgusting. Tone indicators are important for Twitter users (Explanation next).”

The person further explained: “Tone Indicators are mainly for people who are neurodivergent/etc in order for them to better understand how someone’s tweeting. Using (/srs, /j, /gen, etc) can help them know what tone is used and how they should interact. Gabbie Hanna called it “doing too much” which is unfair.”

Describing Hanna’s previous controversies, the Internet user said, “2. This isn’t Gabbie’s first time being problematic. TW// RAPE – – – A few years back Gabbie was also outed for being a rape apologist (against her then best friend) and also blackmailing multiple people in order to keep her name out of the light.”

She further described saying, “Gabbie Hanna has always played the victim online and her actions have been swept under the rug but being openly ableist and using this as a joke is unforgivable. She calls everyone “bullies” when we speak out against her. She’s a grown fucking woman, hold her accountable,” and “Overall, I’m a person with disabilities and tone indicators are important for me and every other Twitter user who can’t properly understand people’s tones over tweets. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice. Gabbie Hanna, You’re a selfish b***h.”

Hanna replied to the Internet slam she received saying, “I was actually referring to the fact that my fans were apologizing to me about talking shit about me deleting my album & starting over. a fan was saying they should have specified they were joking to me and I said they’re doing too much, bc I do not need an indicator from my fans,” and “absolutely. I was responding to my own fans about my own situation, telling them they don’t need to specify to me. this was in reference to a private Livestream on my Patreon, but our convo continued onto Twitter.

She further apologized and wrote, “sorry to any of my neurodivergent fans who were hurt by that, I hope u know that’s never my intention. today is the first day I heard the term tone indicators, I thought my fans were fucking w/ me for being sensitive. ironically, this coulda has been avoided w a tone indicator ily!”
