Johnny Beattie Family
Johnny leaves behind two daughters, Maureen and Louise, and two sons, Paul and Mark, who he shared with ex-wife Kitty Lamont, who died in 1994 following their separation in 1982.
Johnny had an illustrious career that began on the comedy circuit and spanned six decades, earning him an MBE for his work. First starting his stand-up career in the 1950s, He also starred in shows like sitcom Rab C Nesbitt and sketch show Scotch & Wry, and he appeared as a panto dame and quiz show host on Now You See It. Johnny announced his retirement in April 2015 after 60 years in the industry and made his final appearance on TV in River City.

The Scottish comedian and actor passed away following a short stay at St Margaret’s Hospice in Glasgow, reports have confirmed.
Tributes poured in for Johnny following news of his death, as Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon took to Twitter to share a picture of her with the comedian and lament his loss.
Calling him a national treasure in a touching tribute, she wrote: ‘So sad to hear that Johnny Beattie has died. He was a hugely talented performer and a truly lovely man.
‘The photo here was taken at the Govan Fair a few years ago – he had us in stitches. Today, we’ve lost a national treasure, and my thoughts are with his loved ones.’
Johnny’s former River City co-star Leah MacRae wrote: ‘My heart is sad to hear of the passing of the LEGENDARY Johnny Beattie.
‘Getting to work with him on the screen will forever be a career highlight of mine. I watched him in AWE.
He was an exceptional talent but above all, a complete gentleman. Sending love to all of his family.’
While River City actor Gary Lamont added to this sentiment as he wrote: ‘Johnny Beattie! Showbiz legend and a true star.
