Jovenel Moise was a Haitian businessman and politician who served as President of Haiti from 2017 until his assassination in 2021, he passed away.
He was sworn in as president in February 2017 after winning the November 2016 election. In 2019, political unrest and calls for his resignation turned into a crisis.
Jovenel Moïse was born in Trou du Nord, Nord-Est, Haiti, on June 26, 1968. In July 1974, his family moved to Port-au-Prince, where he continued his primary studies at the École Nationale Don Durélin, and continued with his secondary studies first at the Lycée Toussaint Louverture, and then at the Center Culturel du Collège Canada-Haïtien. In 1996 he married his classmate Martine Marie Étienne Joseph. That same year, they left the capital and settled in Port-de-Paix to develop rural areas.
Jovenel Moise has died at the age of 53-years-old.
Cause Of Death
In the early morning of 7 July 2021, Moïse was assassinated and his wife, Martine, injured during an attack on their private residence in Pétion-Ville. Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph stated that he was in control of the country, though the legalities of succession are unclear.

The assassination ignited more chaos in the island country plagued by gang violence and protests opposing the president, according to the Associated Press.
Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph released few details about the killing and did not say who carried out the assassination. He called the assassination “a hateful, inhumane and barbaric act.”
