Marilyn Eastman, best known for her roles as an actress and producer on Night of the Living Dead, has passed away.
Her son John Eastman announced the news on Facebook, revealing that he died in his sleep in Tampa, Florida, and wanted to rest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she began her career.
Beyond Night of the Living Dead, Eastman’s acting credits include an episode of Perry Mason, the 1995 comedy Houseguest, and the 1996 horror film Santa Claws.
Eastman’s son spoke about the mutual appreciation the actress had with her Night of the Living Dead fans and what those relationships meant to her.
“I can’t overstate how much she enjoyed her affection and attention from countless NOLD fans, and until several weeks ago, she was planning personal appearances,” she shared.
John also celebrated his mother’s legacy behind the camera, writing: “In addition to her iconic role as Helen Cooper in the 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead, Marilyn was a performer for stage, television, and radio, as well as writer and producer. ”
“More importantly, she was a hard-working single mother who raised my brother and me on her own,” he added.
Marilyn Eastman has died at the age of 87-years-old.
During Eastman’s career, she was vice president of industrial film Hardman Associates, Inc. Her work there caught the attention of Night of the Living Dead filmmaker George A. Romero, who asked her to join his production company Image Ten. was behind the 1968 zombie cult classic, according to Deadline and IMDb.
