Oakley Carlson is Missing & Her Parents Are Arrested
Oakley Carlson, from rural Oakville, was reported missing by an interested party, although authorities have not been able to determine when she was last seen. Following a wellness check at the girl’s home, police arrested Oakley’s parents, Jordan Bowers, 32, and Andrew Carlson, 36, on Monday, reports KING 5 TV.
“Detectives consider the circumstances surrounding the boy’s disappearance suspicious,” the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
You can’t look at a girl like Oakley and not get emotionally involved in the case, “said Sheriff Brad Johansson, reports KOMO.
“We are really concerned for her safety and well-being and we just don’t know what that is at this time,” he said. “We are definitely hoping and praying for the best result, but realistically we are ready and fearing the worst as well.”
“Detectives and search and rescue workers are currently searching the child’s residence and property,” the sheriff’s office said in its press release. “The investigation is in its early stages. Law enforcement became involved when a concerned citizen asked them to verify the child’s well-being.”
Officers initially detained the parents as “persons of interest” and held them in the Grays Harbor County Jail on suspicion of obstructing a law enforcement officer for allegedly refusing to cooperate with investigators, KOMO reports.
Agents said the parents did not know the girl’s whereabouts and could not provide a reasonable explanation for where she might be, according to the outlet.
As questions grew to include suspicions of homicide, a judge set bail for the couple at $ 150,000, citing the seriousness of the allegations.
“Based on the unusual circumstances of the missing girl, not knowing her whereabouts and no one has seen her in several days and no one knows her condition, we feel it is best for the case,” Johansson said.
The judge set Friday a deadline for authorities to present additional evidence before actual charges against the couple can be considered.
“Until we can get answers to a lot of those questions, we won’t have those answers ourselves,” Johansson said, reports KOMO.
Neither Bowers nor Carlson had a chance to plead guilty and no attorney was identified who could speak on their behalf.
The sheriff’s office asked that anyone with information on the missing girl call 911, call 360-533-8765, or email sodetectives@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.
