Devastated friends and familiar faces rushed to pay tribute to the “class act,” which made history as one of the first comedians to perform for front-line troops in Afghanistan.
He had recently finished a career at Cromer with his girlfriend Hannah Brown, who is said to be devastated by his death.
His fun partner Jason Manford recalled the “many memorable concerts” the couple had put on together as he paid his respects to his late friend.
“I was very sorry to learn of the death of the always very funny and charming Phil Butler.
“I had many memorable concerts with him on the circuit, including a crazy weekend of shows at BCM Square in Magaluf!
“I found a little chat we had online. Thoughts are with his family.”
Strictly’s Craig Revel-Horwood wrote on Twitter: “My thoughts at this time are with @philbutleruk’s family and friends.
“RIP lovely talented man. What a terrible shock. We worked together on the Cinderella panto and he was a wonderful friend.
“We spent Christmas Day and New Year together, we had a wonderful time. I will miss you so much.”
Comedian and author Shaparak Khorsandi said: “Rest in peace Phil. Another one of us left too early.
“For 20 years I’ve looked at the order of execution when I came to a club and said ‘Oh great! Phil Butler is in.’
Actor Tristan Gemmill said: “I just heard the devastating news about Phil Butler. A brilliantly funny man was taken too early.
“My thoughts and best wishes are with his family and friends.”
Benidorm star Asa Elliot also offered his condolences, saying that he was “completely devastated by the news.”
“One of the funniest people I have ever had the privilege of calling my friend,” he wrote in a poignant post.
The late star was a gifted magician and comedian, well known on the corporate and cruise ship circuits.
In addition to hilarious stand-up routines, the comedian also played the title role in a pantomime and wrote material for America’s Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin.

Entertainers from across the country have paid tribute to Mr. Butler, who was the first comedian to perform before British troops on the front lines in Afghanistan.
Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood said: “My thoughts at this time are with @philbutleruk’s family and friends. RIP, talented and charming man. What a terrible shock.”
Comedian Jason Manford recalled working alongside Butler on shows, including in the Spanish resort town of Magaluf.

Butler of Clacton-on-Sea was a regular on the panto circuit and performed on cruise ships.
He was known for his unique style of comedy that incorporated magic tricks into his shows.
A review of the 2021 Cromer Show praised Phil Butler’s performance for “getting his hands on everything from creating a moving sand painting of Cromer to a mind-blowing Rubik’s cube magic trick.”
The cause of Mr. Butler’s death was not confirmed.
