The mother was the one who insisted to Utah authorities that the man was using “some type of devil worship language” to lure her daughter into his clutches, Newsbreak reports. When police questioned the teen alleged victim, she said that Ferree had told her to listen to someone named “Dev,” and that his mysterious entity would give her instructions on how she should service the older man.
The girl said that “Dev” went on to instruct her to perform various sexual acts with Ferree. She told the police that she had complied with the instructions from “Dev,” because Ferree warned her that if she didn’t, a curse would fall upon her family. According to Utah authorities, Ferree raped the teen at a church house before he began telling her to listen to the man named Dev and to use devil-worshipping mind games to keep her in a state of suggestible submission. Police found multiple sexually explicit photos the teen had taken of herself to comply with Ferree’s demands.
The phone number from which the girl received the text messages supposedly written by Dev was in fact registered to Ferree, Local 12 reports. In March, Utah authorities interviewed Ferree and asked him to bring in his cell phone. He proceeded to claim that he had purposefully dropped the phone in water after it began to smoke, thus destroying it.
After examining the phone, investigators found that its SIM card was melted. During this interview with Utah authorities, the man accused of using devil-worship mind games to lure in a teen victim denied ever having sexual contact with the child. Ferrerr did acknowledge that he knew her, however. Police proceeded to obtain a search warrant for Ferree’s home, and then moved to arrest him, KSL reports.
investigators traced Dev’s phone number and learned it was an internet-based number created in 2019 by Ferree, according to the affidavit. A search of the girl’s phone also revealed “an extensive text stream” between her and Dev “where graphic detail is used to instruct (the girl) on where she is to meet Scott, the sex acts that she is to perform … and threats if she does not comply with the instructions. Those texts took place over a period of several months in the fall of the 2020 year.”
