The 61-year-old social worker, who has not been named, suffered multiple stab injuries as he tried to check on the welfare of two vulnerable children in Wood Green.

Two police officers who were called in to help him when he was denied entry to a property on Noel Park Road also suffered stab wounds during the incident. Sulai Bukhari, 33, was charged with attempted murder Sunday morning, as well as two counts of attempting to cause serious bodily harm to the two officers.

Bukhari, of Noel Park Road, will appear in court on Monday.

The social worker’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, while the two officers were released from the hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning. Officers were called in to assist the social worker just before 8 p.m. Friday.

After forcing the door and entering a common area of ​​the building, the social worker was approached by a man who stabbed him several times. Two other men arrested in connection with the same incident have been released under investigation. The Haringey City Council previously said it would “provide all necessary support” to the social worker while he recovers.

Bukhari has been placed in pre-trial detention and will appear in Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on October 9.

Chief Superintendent Treena Fleming, Haringey, and Enfield Police Commander said: “Social workers play a vital role in ensuring that vulnerable people in our community, including children, are safe and secure. “I would also like to pay tribute to the two officers who came to the aid of the victim in this incident, sustaining stab wounds as they did so.

“I am pleased that they were able to leave the hospital and we will ensure that they have our full support as they recover from what would have been a traumatic experience.”
