Bert Belasco, actor in drama sports series “Pitch” and star of BET’s sitcom “Let’s Stay Together,” has died.
He was best known for his role in the television series “Let’s Stay Together.
Belasco earned a theater degree from Southern Illinois University, after which he had a stint at Chicago’s Second City improv theater. In 2007, Belasco began appearing in episodic TV shows such as ”House” and ”Justified” before landing the role of Charles Whitmore alongside Nadine Ellis on ”Let’s Stay Together,” which ran for four seasons. With 21 acting credits, Belasco also appeared on “Key & Peele,” ”The Soul Man,” ”NCIS: New Orleans,” ”Superstore” and ”The Mick.”
Belasco, who lived in Woodland Hills, Calif., was in Virginia filming for a movie and quarantining in a hotel prior to going on set, his father told TMZ.
Belasco also had recurring roles on the baseball drama “Pitch,” starring Kylie Bunbury, at Fox in 2016. In 2018, he appeared on the Showtime comedy-club drama “I’m Dying Up Here.”

Bert’s career was well on the way up — even at his young age, he’s already racked up 23 acting credits and had starred in a bunch of shows and movies. Obviously, he’s perhaps most well-known for playing Charles Whitmore on ‘LST’ for 52 episodes between 2011 and 2014.
He also appeared on several episodes of “Pitch,” “I’m Dying Up Here,” and has lots of one-off roles in series such as “American Princess,” “Superstore,” “The Mick,” “The Soul Man,” “No Names,” “The Big Show Show,” ‘NCIS,’ ‘Key and Peele,’ ‘Justified’ and others.

Cause of Death
Bert Belasco, actor in drama sports series “Pitch” and star of BET’s sitcom “Let’s Stay Together,” has died, Henrico County police confirmed on Monday. He was 38.
Belasco, who lived in Woodland Hills, Calif., was in Virginia filming for a movie and quarantining in a hotel prior to going on set, his father told TMZ. When family and friends could not reach him, hotel staff contacted police to conduct a welfare check, where Belasco was pronounced dead at the scene. While detectives are working with medical examiners to determine the cause of death, the circumstances of the case do not look suspicious, according to the police statement.
“Heartbroken at the passing of Bert Belasco — a talented, kind young man who I had the pleasuring of working with numerous times on #LetsStayTogether,” said co-star Jackée Harry on Twitter. “Squeeze your loved ones tight! Tomorrow is never promised.”
Bert’s father, Bert Sr., tells us his son’s body was found Sunday inside a hotel room in Richmond, VA — where we’re told he was about to start on a project for a new movie role. Bert Sr. says Bert was required to quarantine at the hotel before he could come on set.
While the circumstances of his death are unclear, we do know Bert’s girlfriend couldn’t get a hold of him and eventually asked hotel staff to check on him. We’re told when he was discovered, there was blood on the sheets — the family is awaiting autopsy results.
Belasco’s father, Bert Sr., told TMZ that his son was found dead on Sunday in a hotel room in Virginia after staff went to check on him. The actor was in the middle of quarantining for two weeks leading up to a new movie, according to his dad.
His girlfriend reportedly called the hotel when she had not heard from Belasco.
Bert Sr. thinks his son died of an aneurysm but is waiting on an autopsy to officially announce its findings.

Friend and actor Yvette Nicole Brown tweeted a photo of the two of them and wrote, “This is me and my dear friend #BertBelasco who just passed away at 38. No day is promised.
