A mother and father are facing charges after police said they left their baby in a locked car in the parking lot of a Nassau County mall.
The 1-year-old was found alone, crying and sweating, in the back of a Mercedes-Benz outside the Americana Mall in Manhasset on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. in Manhasset, when temperatures hover around 80 degrees with high humidity. A passerby saw the boy alone inside a Mercedes, parked in the parking lot of a jewelry store on Northern Boulevard.

When the passerby was unable to open the car doors, he called 911 while another passerby tried unsuccessfully to open the car doors with a locking kit, reports NBC New York.
When officers arrived at the scene, they smashed one of the car’s windows and removed the boy, who was reportedly burning and covered in sweat. He was taken in for medical treatment and he was expected to be well.
Eyewitnesses
Two eyewitnesses tried to break into the car to get it out but were unsuccessful. When the police arrived, they were able to break a window and get the baby out.
Police say he was there for about an hour. It is expected to be fine.
The boy’s parents, Jingcai Zhou, and Lu Lu are being accused of reckless endangering in the first grade and endangering the well-being of a child. His arraignment is scheduled for today.

Police arrested the boy’s parents, identified as Jingcai Zhou, 34, and Lu Lu, 24. Both were charged with reckless endangering and endangering the well-being of a child. They are expected to face an arraignment on Wednesday.
