MMA coach Saul Soliz died at age 55 on Tuesday, August 17, friends revealed. Soliz has trained fighters like Tito Ortiz and Cris Cyborg and has also appeared in The Ultimate Fighter.
Most recently, Soliz was the head coach of Metro Fight Club in Houston. He coached several former UFC and PRIDE world champions over a career spanning nearly two decades. After news of his passing by he broke, the MMA community took to social media to mourn the legendary trainer. On Tuesday, August 17, it was announced that Soliz passed away.

Soliz’s friend John Gómez said he died after “a long and tough fight” with Covid-19 in a post on social media. Gomez wrote a long post on Facebook where he said: “He fought a long and hard fight, anyone who knew JR knows he was a UFC coach, he loved to train his fighters and show them how to become winners, not only in fights but also in viva la Vida: he is a mentor to so many, I will never know how many, I know it is a long list ”, wrote Gómez. “He loved to train his wrestlers, they all have great respect for him and also loved him.” He also said: “I will always cherish the time I spent with him and all the memories; now is the time to celebrate his life, he left his mark on this earth, his path has touched many lives, he was loved by so many . “. I know JR is in heaven, maybe coaching the Angels and keeping an eye on us. “Retired UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping tweeted:”
